I was having problems playing some mp4 files (e.g. 4K 4:2:2 10-bit AVC) in windows on vlc and windows media player

I tried AJA and MPV / MPV.net and while both but both had clunky interfaces
I found smplayer uses mpv for playback but provides a usable interface.
The second problem is that windows will not generate thumbnails for these codecs natively, Icaros is the standard solution for thumbnails. I installed K-lite Codec Pack which includes Icaros.
